Macomber Named To Fred Mitchell Award Watch List

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior placekicker John Macomber (Vienna, Va.) has been selected to the 2013 Fred Mitchell Award Watch List. The Mitchell Award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate placekicker from among more than 750 FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA football teams. The recipient of the award will be chosen based on excellence on the football field and in the community. A total of 34 individuals have been named to the preseason Watch List.

Macomber was named second team All-Patriot League as both a punter and placekicker last season, in addition to being selected to the New England Football Writers All-Star team. He ranked second on the team with 55 points scored last year, hitting 10 of 13 field goal attempts (including a long of 46 yards) and 25 of 26 extra points. Macomber also averaged 40.9 yards on 62 punts, with a long of 59 yards and 23 kicks downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line. In addition, he averaged 62.4 yards on 47 kickoffs with 21 touchbacks. Over the course of his career as a Crusader, Macomber has now made 22 of 28 field goals and 45 of 52 extra points, for a total of 111 points scored. His 22 career field goals made currently rank sixth all-time at Holy Cross.

The Crusaders will open the 2013 season when they travel to Bryant on Saturday, Aug. 31.
