WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior defensive lineman Gary Acquah (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior wide receiver Mike Fess (Caldwell, N.J.) will serve as the captains of the 2013 Holy Cross football team, as announced by head coach Tom Gilmore. These two players were selected as captains in voting by the team.
Acquah earned second team All-Patriot League honors in 2012, after starting all 11 games for the Crusaders at defensive end. He totaled 54 tackles on the season, including 35 solo stops, two quarterback sacks and seven tackles for loss. In addition, Acquah posted one pass breakup and one blocked extra point last year. He led all Holy Cross defensive linemen in tackles for the second straight season, while placing 28th in the Patriot League in total tackles. Over the course of his collegiate career, Acquah has now totaled 94 tackles, four quarterback sacks and 10 tackles for loss in 22 games played.
Fess played in all 11 games for Holy Cross at wide receiver in 2012, starting nine times. He led the team and the Patriot League in receiving, totaling 80 receptions for 795 yards and four touchdowns on the year. Fess previously earned second team All-Patriot League honors in 2011, after catching 45 passes for 417 yards and two scores. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, he has now caught 134 passes for 1,318 yards and six touchdowns in 32 games played. He enters the 2013 campaign ranked 10th all-time at Holy Cross in career receptions.
The Crusaders will open the 2013 season when they travel to Bryant on Saturday, Aug. 31.
