WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman wide receiver Kalif Raymond (Lawrenceville, Ga.) has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, for his performance in last Friday's contest at Harvard. This marks the first time a Holy Cross player has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week during the 2012 season.
In the 52-3 loss to the Crimson, Raymond totaled 156 yards on eight kickoff returns and 35 yards on two punt returns, for a career-high 191 all-purpose yards. He had a long kickoff return of 42 yards in the second quarter, and also had a 35-yard punt return in the third quarter. Raymond's 156 kickoff return yards against Harvard are the seventh-most ever by a Holy Cross player in a single game.
In three games played this season, Raymond has now returned 12 kickoffs for 287 yards and two punts for 35 yards. He currently leads the team with an average of 107.3 all-purpose yards per contest.
Holy Cross (0-4 overall) opens Patriot League play this Saturday, Oct. 6, when it plays host to Bucknell (1-3 overall, 0-1 Patriot League) in a 1:00 p.m. game at Fitton Field.
