Crusaders Add Two To Football Coaching Staff

WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross football team has added Jon Guynes and Chris Nugai to its coaching staff, as announced by head coach Tom Gilmore. Guynes will serve as the team's outside linebackers coach, while Nugai will coach the tight ends.

Guynes re-joins the Crusaders after spending the last year as the defensive line coach at Assumption College. He previously served as Holy Cross' outside linebackers coach during the 2008 campaign, helping lead the Crusaders to an overall record of 7-4 and a second place finish in the Patriot League. From 2006-2007, Guynes was the linebackers coach at Iona College, where he helped lead the team to a 7-4 record in 2007. During his time at Iona, Guynes guided the career of Adam Lipski, who earned second team Mid-Major All-America honors in both 2006 and 2007, and was named the 2007 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Prior to his time at Iona, Guynes served as the defensive backs coach at Muhlenberg College in 2005. A 2005 graduate of Lehigh University, Guynes was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Mountain Hawks. He helped lead Lehigh to an overall record of 36-11 during his four seasons, including two trips to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs.

Nugai comes to Holy Cross after spending six years at Columbia as the running backs coach and special team coordinator. He was previously a graduate assistant coach at the Connecticut during the 2005 campaign, and coached the running backs at Harvard from 2003-2004. During Nugai's time at Harvard, he helped direct the career of All-America tailback Clifton Dawson. He also has two years of experience as a head coach, leading the Fitchburg State program in 1996 and 1997. Nugai's other coaching stops include time at Columbia (quarterbacks coach / 2002), Tufts (offensive coordinator / 1999-2001), the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (offensive coordinator / 1998), Yale (offensive assistant / 1995), Maine (offensive assistant / 1994) and King's College (intern assistant / 1993). A 1992 graduate of Worcester State College, Nugai was a three-year letterwinner at quarterback for the Lancers.

The Crusaders are scheduled to play their annual spring game on Saturday, April 14.
