WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior tailback Eddie Houghton (Toronto, Ontario) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from November 7-13. Houghton helped lead the Holy Cross football team to a 29-24 victory over Lafayette on Saturday.
During the victory over Lafayette, Houghton ran the ball 17 times for 68 yards and a career-high two touchdowns. His first touchdown came on a 12-yard run at the 12:12-mark of the first quarter to give the Crusaders at 7-0 lead. Then, with Holy Cross trailing 24-23 in the fourth quarter, Houghton scored the game-winning touchdown on a seven-yard run with just 1:06 left to play.
On the season, Houghton now ranks second on the team in rushing with 353 yards and two scores on 71 carries. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has run the ball 178 times for 888 yards and eight touchdowns, while catching 18 passes for 109 yards.
Holy Cross (5-5 overall, 3-2 Patriot League) plays its final game of the 2011 season this Saturday, Nov. 19, when it travels to Fordham (1-9 overall, 0-5 Patriot League) for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
