Football Team Concludes Spring Drills
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior linebacker Ricky Otis (Cleves, Ohio) totaled seven tackles and a quarterback sack, as the Holy Cross football team played its annual spring game at Fitton Field. The offense was able to total 235 yards on 67 plays from scrimmage, good for an average of 3.5 yards per play. The defense posted two interceptions and two sacks on the day, while only allowing one touchdown and one field goal on 15 possessions.
Sophomore quarterback Max Librizzi (Essex Junction, Vt.) completed 10 of 17 attempts for 98 yards and a touchdown during the game, while senior quarterback Mark Tolzien (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) hit on 10 of 20 passes for 79 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Kyle Toulouse (Arlington, Va.) totaled five receptions for 51 yards and a score, and sophomore wide out Ross Smith (Lewis Center, Ohio) added three catches for 53 yards. Junior tailback Sam Auffant (Hampton, N.H.) led all rushers with 34 yards on eight carries.
On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Roman SanDoval (Allison Park, Pa.) totaled eight tackles with one tackle for loss, while senior linebacker C.J. Martin (Plano, Texas) recorded five tackles with an interception and a pass breakup. Sophomore cornerback Chris Higgins (Miramar, Fla.) returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown, and senior cornerback Chandler Fenner (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished with five tackles in addition to blocking a field goal attempt.
The Crusaders have now concluded spring practice, and are scheduled to open the 2011 season when they play host to Massachusetts on Sept. 1 at Fitton Field.
