WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross freshman guard R.J. Evans (Salem, Conn.) has been named the Patriot League Anaconda Rookie of the Week, for competition from Dec. 22-28. This marks the fourth time this season Evans has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, after previously winning the award on Nov. 17, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15.
In Saturday's 97-88 victory over San Francisco, Evans posted his first career double-double with career highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Earlier in the week, in a 58-53 loss to Ohio, he led the team with 16 points, four rebounds and three steals. Over the course of the two games, Evans averaged 21.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, while hitting 57.1 percent (16 of 28) of his field goal attempts and 71.4 percent (five of seven) of his shots from three-point range.
Overall this season, Evans leads the team in scoring with an average of 12.9 points per game, to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest. He has scored in double-figures nine times in 12 games played this year, including each of the Crusaders' last six contests.
Holy Cross (4-8 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 30, when it plays host to Siena at 7:00 p.m.
