WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) and freshman forward Alex Vander Baan (Uxbridge, Mass.) have been named the Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, for games through Dec. 25. Hamilton earns Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, as he was previously honored on Nov. 21. In addition, Vander Baan takes home his second Rookie of the Week award, as he was also previously honored on Nov. 21.
Hamilton earned All-Tournament honors at last week's San Juan Shootout, after averaging 26.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in Holy Cross' three games, while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from three-point range. He began the tournament by scoring a career-high 38 points against Tennessee-Chattanooga, while making 13 of 20 shots from the floor and seven of 10 three-pointers. He then added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals against Clemson, before totaling 27 points, six assists and three steals against Mississippi State. On the year, Hamilton is averaging 17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per contest.
Vander Baan tied or set a new career-high in scoring during each of the Crusaders' three games at the San Juan Shootout, while averaging 15.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. He began the week by tying his career-high with 11 points against Tennessee-Chattanooga. Vander Baan then scored 15 points against Clemson, while leading the team in both points and rebounds (seven). He concluded the week by putting up 21 points against Mississippi State, in addition to leading the team with nine rebounds. On the season, Vander Baan is averaging 7.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Holy Cross (5-6 overall) returns to action tonight, Dec. 27, when it plays at George Mason (6-3 overall) in a 7:00 p.m. game.
