WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross freshman guard R.J. Evans (Salem, Conn.) has been named the Patriot League Anaconda Rookie of the Week, for competition from Dec. 1-7. He averaged 14.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last week, as the Holy Cross men's basketball team defeated Western Michigan (69-63), while falling to Yale (76-66) and Fairfield (78-66). This marks the second time this season Evans has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, after previously winning the award on Nov. 17.
During the Western Michigan game, Evans scored a career-high 17 points, in addition to posting six rebounds and two steals. He scored five of his points against the Broncos in the final three minutes of play, to help the Crusaders pull away for the victory. Evans also totaled 12 points, three rebounds and three assists at Yale, while recording 13 points and three steals against Fairfield.
Overall this season, Evans leads the team in scoring with an average of 10.7 points per game. He has scored in double-figures six times in nine games played this year.
Holy Cross (3-6 overall) returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 10, when it travels to Massachusetts for a 7:00 p.m. game.
