WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) and freshman forward Alex Vander Baan (Uxbridge, Mass.) have been honored by the Patriot League for their performances this past weekend. Hamilton was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, while Vander Baan was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. The pair led the Crusaders to the championship title at the William & Mary Tip-Off Classic, defeating High Point (85-73 on Nov. 18) and William & Mary (67-55 on Nov. 19).
Hamilton was named the Most Valuable Player of the William & Mary Tip-Off Classic, after averaging 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in the two games. He scored a team-high 22 points on eight of 11 shooting against High Point, in addition to totaling five rebounds, three steals and two assists. The next night against William & Mary, Hamilton led the team in both scoring (18 points) and rebounding (nine boards). Vander Baan stepped right into the Crusader starting lineup as a true freshman, and had an outstanding game against High Point in his collegiate debut. He totaled 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals against the Panthers, including a key jump shot late in the second half after Holy Cross' lead had been cut to four points. Against William & Mary, Vander Baan had four points and two rebounds, while playing just 14 minutes due to foul trouble.
Holy Cross (2-0 overall) returns to action this Tuesday, Nov. 22, when it plays host to Harvard in an 8:30 p.m. game at the Hart Center.
