Crusaders Sign Two Players To National Letters Of Intent

Nov. 16, 2006

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head men's basketball coach Ralph Willard announced today that two student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to attend Holy Cross and play for the Crusaders. Andrew Beinert (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Josh Jones (Ocala, Fla.) will join the Holy Cross program in the fall of 2007.

Beinert is a 6-foot-3, 165-pound guard, who plays at Chaminade High School in Mineola, N.Y., for head coach Jim Quinn. Following his junior season, Beinert was named all-league and second team All-Long Island, in addition to being a fifth team all-state selection by the New York State Sportswriters Association. As a junior, he averaged 15.6 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game, while leading the Flyers to an overall record of 16-7 and the Catholic High School Athletic Association championship game. Beinert also played AAU ball for the Long Island Lightning.

Willard on Beinert: "We are really pleased to get a New York guard the caliber of Andrew Beinert. He is explosive off the dribble, and is an excellent passer and shooter. During his recruitment, all of the coaches described him in one word - a winner. We are very excited to have Andrew joining our basketball program at Holy Cross."

Jones is a 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward, who plays at Trinity Catholic High School for head coach Gary Belger. He averaged 12.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game last season, and was named second team all-county. Jones also earned second team all-county honors as a sophomore, after averaging 10.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per contest. Over the course of his first three seasons at Trinity Catholic, he has led the Celtics to an overall record of 61-20. Jones played his AAU ball for the Florida Elite and the Gainesville Motivators Elite, and was named to the Five-Star (Fla.) All-Star team and the Dodge Shootout All-Start team, in addition to earning all-tournament honors at the Tournament of Champions.

Willard on Jones: "We are extremely excited about getting Josh Jones into the Holy Cross basketball family. He is a very good athlete with great leadership skills. His tremendous upside, coupled with a great work ethic, will make him a freshman who can make an immediate impact. He is the type of student-athlete who will fit in great at an academic-athletic school like Holy Cross."

Holy Cross currently stands 2-0 on the season, following victories over Fairfield and Hampton. The Crusaders are coming off a 2005-2006 season in which they posted an overall record of 25-12, with an 11-3 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18, when they play host to Siena at 3:00 p.m.
