Nov. 1, 2006
WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior guard Keith Simmons (Kingston, N.Y.), a member of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, has been named to the 2006-2007 College Insider preseason Mid-Major All-America team. Simmons was one of 25 players from across the nation selected to the squad, which was chosen by Division I head coaches, NBA scouts and the College Insider staff.
Simmons was previously named preseason All-Patriot League, after earning first team All-Patriot League honors during both his sophomore and junior seasons. A year ago, Simmons ranked second on the team and fifth in the league in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game. He led the team in both field goal percentage (52.5 percent, 158 of 301) and three-point field goal percentage (47.6 percent, 60 of 126), while placing third and first in the conference, respectively. Simmons, who also ranked among the team's leaders in rebounds (5.2 per game) and steals (1.2 per game), led the Crusaders in scoring 12 times last year, while scoring in double figures on 25 occasions. He was particularly effective against Patriot League foes, averaging 16.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in regular season conference games.
Holy Cross is scheduled to open the 2006-2007 season on Sunday, November 12, when it plays host to Fairfield in a 4:00 p.m. contest at the Hart Center.
