Simmons & Thomas Named Preseason All-Patriot League

BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior guard Keith Simmons (Kingston, N.Y.) and senior guard Torey Thomas (White Plains, N.Y.), members of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, have been named preseason All-Patriot League, it was announced at Patriot League media day. As a team, Holy Cross was picked to finish in second place in the 2006-2007 Patriot League preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors, receiving three first place votes. Bucknell finished first in the poll and received 12 first place votes. The preseason rankings were rounded out by American (third, one first place vote), Lehigh (fourth), Colgate (fifth), Lafayette (sixth), Navy (seventh) and Army (eighth).

Last season, Simmons earned first team All-Patriot League honors after ranking second on the team and fifth in the league in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game. He led the team in both field goal percentage (52.5 percent, 158 of 301) and three-point field goal percentage (47.6 percent, 60 of 126), while placing third and first in the conference, respectively. Simmons, who also ranked among the team's leaders in rebounds (5.2 per game) and steals (1.2 per game), led the Crusaders in scoring 12 times last year, while scoring in double figures on 25 occasions. He was particularly effective against Patriot League foes, averaging 16.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in regular season conference games.

Thomas was named second team All-Patriot League last year, after averaging 11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.4 steals on the season for the Crusaders, while shooting 35.4 percent from three-point range (34 of 96). He led the Patriot League in assists, while ranking second in steals, fourth in rebounds and 14th in scoring. Thomas was even more effective in conference games, averaging 11.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 2.0 steals against Patriot League foes. The team's leading scorer on five occasions last year, Thomas also reached double figures in scoring 20 times, and posted a team-best three double-doubles.

Holy Cross is scheduled to open the 2006-2007 season on Sunday, November 12, when it plays host to Fairfield in a 4:00 p.m. contest at the Hart Center.
