Oct. 18, 2007

BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior center Tim Clifford (Walpole, Mass.), a member of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, has been named the preseason Patriot League Player of the Year, as announced at Patriot League media day. As a team, Holy Cross was picked to finish in first place in the 2007-2008 Patriot League preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors, receiving 10 out of 16 first place votes. Bucknell finished second in the poll and received five first place votes. The preseason rankings were rounded out by Colgate (third, one first place vote), Lehigh (fourth), American (fifth), Army (sixth), Navy (seventh) and Lafayette (eighth).

Last season, Clifford averaged 11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and a Patriot League-best 1.9 blocked shots per game for the Crusaders, while shooting a team-best 82.2 percent at the foul line (74 of 90). He was even more effective in conference games, averaging 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game against Patriot League foes. Clifford scored in double figures 18 times last season, while leading the team in scoring eight times. Over the course of his career as a Crusader, Clifford has now totaled 725 points, 356 rebounds and 143 blocked shots. He enters his senior year needing just 11 more blocks to become Holy Cross' all-time career record holder.

Holy Cross is scheduled to open the 2007-2008 season on Saturday, November 10, when it plays host to Hofstra in a 7:00 p.m. contest at the Hart Center.
