L'HOSPITALET, Spain - The Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by C.B. L'Hospitalet 92-61 on Thursday in the final game of its European tour. Sophomore forward Eric Meister (Boalsburg, Pa.) led the Crusaders with 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots on the night. Holy Cross concludes it trip to Europe with a 2-3 overall record.
The Crusaders led 10-9 in the first quarter, before L'Hospitalet went on a 19-0 run bolstered by three three-pointers in transition from Tariq Johnson. Holy Cross trailed 51-30 at halftime, as L'Hospitalet hit eight of nine three-point attempts before the break. The Crusaders would get no closer than 20 points in the second half, as it was outscored by L'Hospitalet 31-15 at the foul line and had 25 turnovers on the day.
Senior center Tim Clifford (Walpole, Mass.), junior forward Colin Cunningham (Memphis, Tenn.), junior guard Lawrence Dixon (Columbia, Md.) and junior forward Alex Vander Baan (Uxbridge, Mass.) all scored nine points for Holy Cross in the game. Junior guard Pat Doherty returned to the Crusader lineup after missing the last three games, but did not score.
L'Hospitalet a Division 2 professional team from just outside of Barcelona, Spain, which featured former Bucknell standout Chris MacNaughton, who started at center and finished with 10 points.
