BOSTON, Mass. - Former Holy Cross guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) has signed with the Boston Celtics to play on their team in the 2006 Toshiba Vegas Summer League. Hamilton will be one of 12 players on the roster, which includes five current Celtics, two draft selections and five undrafted free agents.
Hamilton will be playing alongside current Celtics Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Dwayne Jones and Sebastian Telfair, as well as 2006 draft picks Rajon Rondo (Kentucky) and Leon Powe (California). Also joining Hamilton on the roster are undrafted free agents Akin Akingbala (Clemson), Ndudi Ebi (Westbury Christian H.S.), Allan Ray (Villanova) and Wes Wilkinson (Nebraska).
Hamilton averaged 17.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game for Holy Cross during the 2005-2006 season. He was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to being a first team All-Patriot League selection for the second straight season. Hamilton led the Patriot League in scoring, rebounds and steals, and was the only player in the nation to lead his conference in all three of those categories. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, he set school records for steals (292), three-pointers made (222) and three-pointers attempted (640), while placing ninth all-time at Holy Cross in assists (308), 10th in field goals attempted (1,196) and 11th in points scored (1,492).
The Celtics first game in the Toshiba Vegas Summer League will be Saturday, July 8, at 12:00 p.m., when they take on the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics' five-game schedule in Las Vegas continues with match-ups against the Los Angeles Clippers (July 9), the Toronto Raptors (July 11 on NBA-TV) and the Denver Nuggets (July 12 on NBA-TV). The summer league concludes with a game against the Detroit Pistons (July 14 on NBA-TV).
