WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior forward John Hurley (South Boston, Mass.) and senior guard Greg Kinsey (Hatboro, Pa.), members of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, are the 2004-2005 recipients of the Richard J. Maloney Award. The award was presented at the 51st Annual Varsity Club Dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Saturday, May 7.
The Maloney Award has been presented annually to the men's basketball team's most valuable player since 1981. This year marks only the second time that two players have shared the award, as Rick Mashburn and Bill Walker both received the honor in 1993.
Hurley led the team with an average of 6.0 rebounds per game this season, in addition to averaging 7.9 points 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals per contest, and shooting 47.5 percent from the floor. Kinsey averaged 5.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game on the year, while hitting 35.2 percent of his shots from three-point range.
The Crusaders finished the 2004-2005 campaign with an overall record of 25-7, while advancing to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament. Holy Cross also won the Patriot League regular season title with a 13-1 mark in conference games.
