WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman R.J. Evans (Salem, Conn.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from March 2-8. Evans averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game last week, as the Holy Cross men's basketball team defeated Bucknell and Colgate in its first two games of the Patriot League Tournament.

During Wednesday's 75-56 quarterfinal victory over Bucknell, Evans totaled a career-high 31 points, six rebounds and three steals, while hitting 12 of 17 shots from the field and two of three attempts from three-point range. His 31 points against the Bison were the most ever by a Holy Cross freshman in a Patriot League Tournament game. Evans also played well in Sunday's 61-44 semifinal win over Colgate, finishing the game with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Overall this season, Evans is averaging a team-best 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per contest, while scoring in double-figures in 20 of his last 25 games. His 413 points scored this year are the second-most ever by a Holy Cross freshman, behind only Ronnie Perry with 574 points in 1976-1977.

The Crusaders (18-13 overall, 11-3 Patriot League) return to action on Friday, March 13, when they travel to American for the Patriot League championship game at 4:45 p.m. The Holy Cross-American game will be shown live on ESPN2.
