WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) and freshman forward Alex Vander Baan (Uxbridge, Mass.) have been named the Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, for games through Feb. 19. The duo led the Crusaders to a pair of victories over Navy (72-62 on Feb. 5) and American (69-62 on Feb. 18) in the last seven days. This marks the fourth time this season Hamilton has earned Player of the Week honors, and the fourth time Vander Baan has been named Rookie of the Week.
In the win over Navy, Hamilton led the team in points (17), rebounds (11) and assists (eight), in addition to recording three steals. He posted his second double-double of the season, and the third of his career, against the Midshipmen. Against American, Hamilton totaled 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, while hitting 11 of 12 free throw attempts and three of four shots from three-point range. For the week, he averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. On the year, Hamilton is averaging 17.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.3 steals per contest.
Vander Baan recorded 10 points and five rebounds in the victory over Navy, while making three of five shots from the floor and four of six attempts at the foul line. He then totaled nine points, five rebounds, three steals and a block in the American game. On the week, Vander Baan averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest. Over the course of the season, he has averaged 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Holy Cross (16-11 overall, 9-3 Patriot League) returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 22, when it travels to Colgate for a 7:00 p.m. game.
