WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) and freshman forward Alex Vander Baan (Uxbridge, Mass.) have been honored by the Patriot League for their performances last week. Hamilton was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, while Vander Baan was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. The duo led the Crusaders to a pair of road victories over Navy (81-67 on Feb. 1) and Lafayette (77-61 on Feb. 4). This marks the third time this season Hamilton has earned Player of the Week honors, and the third time Vander Baan has been named Rookie of the Week.
Hamilton scored a team-high 26 points at Navy, hitting nine of 18 field goals and four of seven three-point attempts. He also totaled seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks against the Midshipmen. In the Lafayette game, Hamilton recorded 22 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, to go along with three steals, two assists and a block. On the week, he averaged 24.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.0 percent from three-point range (seven of 14). Overall this season, Hamilton is averaging 18.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 3.1 assists per game.
Vander Baan scored 10 points in the victory over Navy, in addition to posting six rebounds, three assists and a block. He then totaled six points, six rebounds and two assists in the Lafayette game. On the week, Vander Baan made five of eight field goal attempts (62.5 percent) and five of seven shots at the free throw line (71.4 percent). Over the course of the season, he has averaged 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Holy Cross (13-10 overall, 6-2 Patriot League) returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when it plays host to Army (5-16 overall, 1-8 Patriot League) in a 7:00 p.m. game at the Hart Center. The contest will be shown live in the Worcester area on WCTR-TV3.
