WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) and freshman guard Pat Doherty (Scranton, Pa.), members of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, have been recognized by the Patriot League for their performances in games from Jan. 24-30. Hamilton was selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week, while Doherty was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
Hamilton averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals per game last week, as the Crusaders posted three victories over American (80-56 on Jan. 24), Lafayette (74-57 on Jan. 28) and Lehigh (58-56 on Jan. 30). In the American game, Hamilton totaled 23 points, seven assists, five steals and four rebounds, while at Lafayette he had 22 points, six rebounds and three assists. Hamilton finished the week with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals at Lehigh, as he led the Crusaders in scoring in each of the three games. On the week, Hamilton shot 55.0 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three-point range.
Doherty averaged 11.0 points, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game last week, while earning Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week. Against American, he totaled 15 points, five steals, two rebounds and two assists. Doherty also totaled 14 points, three assists and two rebounds at Lehigh, while hitting a pair of key free throws with 1:32 remaining to break a 54-54 tie. Over the course of the three games last week, Doherty shot 47.8 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from three-point range, in addition to going a perfect six for six at the free throw line.
On the season, Hamilton is averaging 15.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 3.1 assists per game, while Doherty is averaging 5.1 points, 2.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 rebounds per contest.
Holy Cross, which has an overall record of 15-5 overall and stands in first place in the Patriot League with a 6-1 mark in conference games, returns to action on Friday, Feb. 4, when it travels to Navy (6-14 overall, 2-5 Patriot League) for a 7:00 p.m. game.
