Crusaders Defeat Harvard 60-52

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) scored 18 points and sophomore guard Torey Thomas (White Plains, N.Y.) added 13 to lead Holy Cross to a 60-52 victory over Harvard 60-52 at Lavietes Pavilion. The Crusaders improve to 2-0 on the season with the win, while the Crimson falls to 0-2.

Holy Cross led 34-30 at halftime after jumping to an early 12-3 lead on Hamilton's three-pointer five minutes into the first half. But Harvard tied the game at 36 when Cusworth made a jump shot at the 16:16 mark of the second half.

The Crusaders then went on a 8-0 run behind a pair of baskets by senior center Nate Lufkin (Austin, Texas) to open up a 44-36 lead with 14 minutes left in the contest.

Harvard never got closer than six points for the remainder of the game as they turned the ball over 26 times and were only nine of 24 from the field in the second half. The Crusaders totaled 20 steals in the game, including six by senior forward John Hurley (South Boston, Mass.), five by Hamilton and three from sophomore guard Keith Simmons (Kingston, N.Y.). It was the most steals by Holy Cross since it had 21 against Texas A&M on Dec. 30, 1994.

Matt Stehle and Brian Cusworth led the Crimson with 13 points each, while Stehle's eight rebounds led both teams. Michael Beal added 11 points for Harvard.
