WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior center Tim Clifford (Walpole, Mass.) totaled 16 points, five rebounds and six blocked shots, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 74-57 victory over UMass-Lowell in an exhibition game at the Hart Center. Sophomore forward Adam May (Mentor, Ohio) added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, while senior guard Kyle Cruze (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The scored was close early on, with the River Hawks holding a 16-13 lead with 8:45 left in the first half. The Crusaders then went on a 13-0 run to claim the lead for good, and would take a 33-24 advantage into the locker room. UMass-Lowell trimmed the lead down to seven points early in the second half, before Holy Cross put the game away with a 14-4 spurt. The Crusaders would eventually lead by as many as 22 points, before finally winning by 17.
Sophomore forward Eric Meister (Boalsburg, Pa.) finished with 11 points and three rebounds for Holy Cross, while junior forward Alex Vander Baan (Uxbridge, Mass.) added seven points and a team-best eight rebounds. UMass-Lowell was led by Ali Kanaan with 12 points and four rebounds.
Holy Cross opens the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10, when it plays host to Hofstra in a 7:00 p.m. game at the Hart Center.
