WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) totaled 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 76-42 victory over Army in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament at the Hart Center. The Crusaders improve to 23-5 on the season with the victory, and advance to face Lehigh at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in the semifinals. Army concludes its year at 3-24.
The Crusaders opened the game on a 13-5 run, but the Black Knights kept things close throughout the first half, and Holy Cross was up by just two (29-27) at the break.
After the intermission, the Crusaders gradually built their lead back up, and held a 54-40 advantage with 10 minutes left to play. Holy Cross then stepped up on the defensive end, holding Army to just two points the rest of the way, as it pulled away to finally win by 34 points.
Senior guard Greg Kinsey (Hatboro, Pa.) recorded 13 points and three rebounds for the Crusaders, while sophomore guard Torey Thomas (White Plains, N.Y.) added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore guard Keith Simmons (Kingston, N.Y.) also played well, totaling 11 points.
The Black Knights were led by Matt Bell with 13 points and five rebounds.
