WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior center Tim Clifford (Walpole, Mass.) totaled 16 points and six rebounds, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Colgate 63-55 at the Hart Center. The Crusaders fall to 15-12 overall and 5-8 in the Patriot League, while the Raiders improve to 15-13 on the season and 6-7 in the conference.

The Crusaders started the night hot, jumping out to an early 12-2 lead after the first six minutes of play. But the Raiders scored the next six points to get back into the game, and eventually tied the score up at 14-14. Neither team led by more than three points for the remainder of the half, before the teams went into the locker room tied at 27-27.

Colgate started the second half on an 8-2 run, to take a lead which it would never relinquish. The Raiders' lead eventually grew as large as 14 points (51-37) with 10 minutes left to play, when Holy Cross began to fight back. The Crusaders used a 9-0 spurt over the next five minutes to close to within three points, including five points by sophomore forward Eric Meister (Boalsburg, Pa.) during that run. Holy Cross eventually cut the margin to two points (57-55) with just under a minute remaining, but the Crusaders would not score again and Colgate held on for the 63-55 win.

Junior forward Colin Cunningham (Memphis, Tenn.) finished the night with 11 points and nine rebounds for Holy Cross. Kyle Roemer led the Raiders with 20 points, while Kendall Chones added 18 points and five rebounds.
