Holy Cross Takes Down Bucknell 69-54

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Holy Cross won its 13th straight game and clinched the Patriot League regular season title with 69-54 victory over Bucknell at the Hart Center. The Crusaders, who improve to 21-5 overall and 12-1 in the Patriot League, will have homecourt advantage throughout the conference tournament, which begins March 4.
Junior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) totaled 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Holy Cross. The Crusaders led 48-42 with 7:17 to play when Hamilton and senior guard Greg Kinsey (Hatboro, Pa.) sparked a decisive 12-2 run to put the game away.
John Griffin scored 15 points to lead Bucknell (18-9 overall, 9-4 Patriot League).
The Bison pulled within six points when Chris McNaughton sank two free throws and Charles Lee another, making it 48-42 with 7:17 left to play.
But sophomore guard Torey Thomas (White Plains, N.Y.) and senior forward John Hurley (South Boston, Mass.) each sank two free throws, and Hamilton connected on a three-pointer to push the lead to 55-42 at the 5:58 mark. Holy Cross was 20 of 22 from the free-throw line (90.0 percent) on the night, marking the first time the Crusaders have hit better than 90 percent of their free throws in a game since Feb. 8, 2003 (19 of 21, 90.5 percent, at Army).
Kinsey's three-pointer with 4:43 left made it 60-44.
Sophomore guard Keith Simmons (Kingston, N.Y.) totaled 14 points, including a nine of 10 performance at the foul line. Thomas finished the game with 12 points, seven assists and four steals, while Hurley had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Kinsey recorded 10 points and four boards.
The Crusaders conclude the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26, when they play host to Army in a 3:00 p.m. game at the Hart Center.
