Balanced Attack Leads Crusaders To 81-67 Win At Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Senior guard Kevin Hamilton (Queens Village, N.Y.) totaled 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to an 81-67 victory over Navy at Alumni Hall. Hamilton hit nine of 18 shots from the field and four of seven attempts from three-point range, while scoring 20 or more points for the seventh time this season. Holy Cross improves to 12-10 overall and 5-2 in the Patriot League with the win, while Navy falls to 9-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
The Crusaders opened the game with a 9-0 run over the first three and a half minutes of play, and would quickly expand their lead to double figures. After leading by 10 (22-12) with 4:15 left before the break, Holy Cross used a 13-0 run to expand its lead to 23 points at the one-minute mark. The Crusaders held a 20-point lead (35-15) at halftime. The Holy Cross lead would grow as large as 27 points on two occasions in the second half (56-29 and 58-31), before Navy rallied in the closing minutes to make the final score look respectable.
Hamilton was one of five Crusaders with at least 10 points in the game, as the entire Holy Cross starting five scored in double digits. Junior guard Keith Simmons (Kingston, N.Y.) had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, while junior guard Torey Thomas (White Plains, N.Y.) added 13 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and three steals. Sophomore center Tim Clifford (Walpole, Mass.) finished the game with 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and freshman forward Alex Vander Baan (Whitinsville, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Navy was led by Greg Sprink and Kaleo Kina with 19 points each.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, when it travels to Lafayette (9-11 overall, 3-4 Patriot League) for a 1:00 p.m. game.
