Crusaders Suffer 70-57 Road Loss At Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - Sophomore forward Andrew Keister (Galloway, N.J.) scored a career-high 18 points and pulled down five rebounds, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Central Florida 70-57 at the UCF Arena. Keister hit seven of 10 shots from the field, in addition to making four of six attempts at the free throw line. Holy Cross falls to 5-10 on the season with the loss, while Central Florida improves to 10-4.

The Crusaders opened the game with an 8-2 run, and would increase their lead to seven points (13-6) with 13:24 left in the first half. The Knights came back to score the next five points, and would eventually pull in front (17-15) at the nine-minute mark. Central Florida would lead by as many as five points late in the half, before finally taking a 28-24 advantage into the locker room.

The score remained close early in the second half, when the Knights went on an 11-4 run to go in front by eight (44-36) with 11:44 left in regulation. Holy Cross was able to close to within five points (50-45) at the 8:30-mark, but Central Florida then used an 8-3 spurt to bring its lead back to double figures. The Knights would eventually lead by as many as 15 points down the stretch, before finally posting a 13-point victory.

Freshman guard R.J. Evans (Salem, Conn.) finished with 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Crusaders, while sophomore guard Andrew Beinert (Floral Park, N.Y.) totaled 14 points and three rebounds. Central Florida was led by Jermaine Taylor with 29 points and five rebounds.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they play host to Lafayette in their Patriot League opener at 3:30 p.m.
