Men’s Basketball Comes Back To Defeat Colgate 69-68
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior forward Malcolm Miller (Laytonsville, Md.) totaled 17 points, five rebounds and three assists, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 69-68 victory over Colgate at Cotterell Court. The Crusaders improve to 13-10 on the season and 7-4 in the Patriot League with the victory, while the Raiders fall to 8-14 overall and 2-9 in the conference.
The Crusaders trailed 52-43 with 12:51 remaining in the second half, before going on a 9-1 run to cut the margin down to one point (53-52). The Raiders would hold onto a small lead for the next several minutes, before a dunk by Miller with 4:29 remaining gave Holy Cross its first lead of the night (60-59). Colgate was able to pull back in front two more times, but a three-pointer by junior guard Justin Burrell (Dumfries, Va.) and a driving layup by Miller tied up the score at 63-63 and then 65-65 with 1:11 to go.
After a Colgate timeout with 30.9 seconds left, Burrell stole an inbounds pass and fed sophomore guard Eric Green (Mountain House, Calif.) for a dunk to put the Crusaders ahead for good (67-65). A pair of free throws by Miller with 8.0 seconds on clock gave Holy Cross an insurmountable 69-65 advantage, before a three-pointer by the Raiders' Murphy Burnatowski at the final buzzer concluded the scoring.
Senior forward Dave Dudzinski (Elburn, Ill.) finished with 14 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Burrell recorded 11 points and three assists. Green added 11 points and three assists, while freshman guard Anthony Thompson (Glenn Dale, Md.) chipped in with nine points.
Colgate was led by Burnatowski with 16 points and five rebounds.
Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 9, when it plays host to Bucknell in a 12:00 p.m. game which will be shown live on the CBS Sports Network.
