WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore guard Cullen Hamilton (Washington, D.C.) scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to an 88-68 victory over Assumption in an exhibition game at the Hart Center. Hamilton hit 11 of 16 field goal attempts on the day, including three of six shots from three-point range.
The game was close early on, and the score was tied at 17-17 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The Crusaders then scored the next seven points, beginning a 15-3 run which put made the score 32-20. Holy Cross added a 9-0 spurt a few minutes later, as it built a 49-32 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime. Assumption would get no closer than 16 points during the second half, with the Crusaders leading by as many as 27 points before finally claiming a 20-point win.
Freshman forward Malachi Alexander (Bowie, Md.) totaled 15 points, five rebounds and three steals for Holy Cross, while senior forward Dave Dudzinski (Elburn, Ill.) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Assumption was led by Chris Fitzgerald with 21 points.
Holy Cross opens the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 10, when it faces Harvard at 5:30 p.m. as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tripleheader at the TD Garden.
