WORCESTER, Mass. -- Junior forward Dave Dudzinski (Elburn, Ill.) scored a game-high 19 points, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team lost an exhibition game against Assumption at the Hart Center, 71-63. Dudzinski hit six of 11 field goal attempts on the day, in addition to connecting on seven of eight free throws.
The game was close early on, before the Greyhounds used a 13-3 run to pull ahead by 12 with 11:34 remaining in the first half. Assumption would eventually go up by as many as 15 points, before taking a 38-26 advantage into the lockerroom. The Greyhounds increased their lead to 19 points midway through the second half, and were still up 61-45 with 6:14 to go. The Crusaders then scored nine straight points to make things interesting, but Holy Cross was not able to get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Freshman guard Cullen Hamilton (Washington, D.C.) totaled 12 points and four assists, while hitting four of eight shots from three-point range. Sophomore guard Justin Burrell (Dumfries, Va.) added 10 points and two rebounds for the Crusaders. Assumption was led by Kevin Donahue with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Holy Cross opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9, when it travels to Old Dominion for a 7:15 p.m. game.
