WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior center Andrew Keister (Galloway, N.J.) scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 68-54 victory over Army at Christl Arena. Sophomore guard Jordan Stevens (Gansevoort, N.Y.) also played well for the Crusaders, tying his career-high with 15 points, in addition to posting three rebounds and three assists. Holy Cross improves to 3-13 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Black Knights fall to 9-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Holy Cross started the game on fire, hitting nine of its first 11 shots from the field to take an early 23-7 lead. The Black Knights were able to close to within nine points (24-15) with 11:31 left in the first half, before the Crusaders responded with a 15-2 run over the next eight minutes to build their lead back to double figures. At one point during that stretch, Holy Cross held Army scoreless for a span of 6:03. The Crusaders eventually took a 43-26 advantage into the locker room.
Holy Cross' lead would stay between 13 and 19 points for the first nine minutes of the second half, and the Crusaders led 51-35 with 11 minutes to play. Holy Cross then used a 12-2 run over the next five and a half minutes to put the game away. The Black Knights would close out the night with a 13-2 run, to make the final score look closer than it actually was.
Sophomore forward Eric Obeysekere (Orinda, Calif.) totaled eight points, a game-high 14 rebounds and four blocked shots, while senior guard Andrew Beinert (Floral Park, N.Y.) added eight points, four rebounds and four assists. Army's Julian Simmons scored a game-high 24 points, 14 of which came in the final 10 minutes of the second half.
The Crusaders made 28 of 53 field goal attempts on the night (52.8 percent), while holding the Black Knights to just 18 of 60 shooting (30.0 percent). Holy Cross also held a 44-29 advantage on the boards.
The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, Jan. 16, when they travel to Bucknell for a 2:00 p.m. game which will be shown to a national audience on CBS College Sports Television.
