Men’s Basketball Falls 71-56 At Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra's Mike Moore scored 12 of his game-high 15 points in the second half, as the Pride pulled away for a 71-56 victory over the Holy Cross men's basketball team at the Mack Sports Complex. Senior center Andrew Keister (Galloway, N.J.) led the Crusaders with 12 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Jordan Stevens (Gansevoort, N.Y.) scored a career-high 11 points off the bench. Holy Cross falls to 1-9 on the season with the loss, while the Pride improve to 7-4 overall.

Hofstra took an early 6-2 lead to open the game, before Holy Cross used an 8-2 spurt to claim a 10-8 advantage with 11 minutes left in the first half. But the Pride then went on a 16-0 run over the next four minutes to take its biggest lead of the half, 24-10. Hofstra would eventually take a 34-22 advantage into the locker room.

The Crusaders started the second half strong, using a 7-4 spurt to cut the Pride's lead to single digits (41-32) with just under 17 minutes left to play. Holy Cross would eventually make the score 43-38 on a three-pointer by Stevens with 13:54 remaining in regulation. But Hofstra responded with a 7-1 run over the next three minutes to build its lead back to 11 points (50-39). The Crusaders would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way, before the Pride pulled away for a 15-point victory.

Junior guard Devin Brown (Baltimore, Md.) scored 10 points for Holy Cross, and sophomore forward Eric Obeysekere (Orinda, Calif.) added six points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 28, when they play host to St. Joseph's at 7:00 p.m.
