CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Cory Raji scored 15 points and Danny Rubin recorded 14 for the Eagles as the Holy Cross men's basketball team fell to Boston College, 69-54, at Conte Forum on Monday night. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-4, while the Eagles improve to 2-1. Junior R.J. Evans (Salem, Conn.) led Holy Cross with 12 points.
After the Eagles took an early 13-6 lead with 13:21 left in the first half, Holy Cross went on a 9-0 run to take a 15-13 advantage with 9:07 remaining. The Eagles then scored six straight points, but senior Andrew Beinert (Floral Park, N.Y.) then hit a three-pointer to cut the BC lead to 19-18. With Eagles now up by a 25-20 score, junior Devin Brown (Baltimore, Md.) and Beinert each hit shots to make it a 25-24 contest with 3:50 left. BC then tallied six of the next eight points to end the half with a 31-26 lead. Senior Andrew Keister (Galloway, N.J.) led the Crusaders with eight points.
With Holy Cross trailing 34-27 early in the second half, Beinert hit two straight three-pointers to cut the lead to 34-33. With the Eagles now leading 36-35, they went on a 12-0 run to extend their advantage to 48-35 with 13:10 left. With the Crusaders down by 15 points at 55-40, Holy Cross tallied seven consecutive points to cut the deficit to eight points with 5:53 remaining in the second half to make the score 55-47. But the Eagles then went on a 12-0 run to increase their lead to 20 points at 67-47. Holy Cross then outscored BC, 7-2, for the 69-54 final score.
Beinert and Brown each recorded 11 points for the Crusaders, while Keister notched 10. Evans and Keister each had seven rebounds.
The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Amherst to take on UMass at the Curry Hicks Cage on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 3:00 p.m. This will be the first regular season game at the Cage since 1993.
