WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr., and head men's basketball coach Milan Brown have announced the Crusaders' schedule for the 2010-2011 season, which is slated to begin on Nov. 13. The non-conference portion of the schedule includes seven games against teams which advanced to postseason play last year, and features two opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference (Boston College and Wake Forest) and three schools from the Atlantic 10 Conference (George Washington, Massachusetts and St. Joseph's). The schedule also includes a total of 12 regular season home games at the Hart Center.
"This is going to be a very tough schedule, but I like that fact that we are going to be able to challenge ourselves outside of the conference," said Brown. "We expect that to prepare us for a difficult season of play in the Patriot League."
The Crusaders begin the season with a home game against the College of Charleston (Nov. 13), before embarking on a five-game road stretch which includes dates at Harvard (Nov. 17), New Hampshire (Nov. 20), Boston College (Nov. 22), Massachusetts (Nov. 27) and Wake Forest (Dec. 4). Holy Cross returns home to face Stony Brook (Dec. 7) and Fairfield (Dec. 12), then plays road contests at Marist (Dec. 19) and Hofstra (Dec. 22). The Crusaders then take on St. Joseph's at the Hart Center (Dec. 28) and hit the road to face George Washington (Dec. 31).
Holy Cross begins the new calendar year at Sacred Heart (Jan. 2), before playing host to Yale (Jan. 5). The Crusaders then open Patriot League play at home against Lafayette (Jan. 8), before playing three straight conference road games at Army (Jan. 12), Bucknell (Jan. 15) and Navy (Jan. 19). Following home dates with American (Jan. 22) and Colgate (Jan. 26), Holy Cross once again hits the road for trips to Lehigh (Jan. 29) and Lafayette (Feb. 5).
The Crusaders will next play three straight conference home games against Army (Feb. 9), Bucknell (Feb. 12) and Navy (Feb. 16), before hitting the road to face American (Feb. 19) and Colgate (Feb. 23). Holy Cross then closes out the regular season at home against Lehigh (Feb. 26). All games in the 2011 Patriot League Tournament will take place on the campus of the higher seeded team, with quarterfinal games on March 2, the semifinal round on March 6, and the championship game on March 11.
Holy Cross returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from its 2009-2010 squad which went 9-22 overall, and placed seventh in the Patriot League with a 5-9 mark in conference games.
