WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward Andrew Keister (Galloway, N.J.) posted a double-double with 17 points and 18 rebounds, but the Holy Cross men’s basketball team was defeated by Army 67-64 at the Hart Center. Keister made seven of eight shots from the floor, while coming up just one rebound shy of the Hart Center single game record. Holy Cross falls to 3-13 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League, while Army improves to 11-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Army started the game hot, making three of their first four shots from the field to take an 8-2 lead just 2:17 into the game. The Black Knights would increase their lead to seven points (11-4), before sophomore guard Devin Brown (Baltimore, Md.) scored six straight points to get the Crusaders back into the game. Army held onto a slim lead for the rest of the half, before junior guard Andrew Beinert (Floral Park, N.Y.) hit a three-point field goal just before halftime to tie the score at 32-32 heading into the locker room.
The game remained close early in the second half, before the Black Knights went on an 8-2 run to go in front by seven points (51-44). But Holy Cross refused to go away, eventually coming back to take a 60-59 lead after Beinert hit a three-pointer and a pair of free throws. The Crusaders were still up by one (64-63) with just under three minutes to play, when Army took the lead for good on a layup by Eric Zastoupil. Holy Cross would not score again, as the Black Knights held on for the victory.
Brown finished the game with 13 points, while sophomore guard Mike Cavataio (Forest Hills, N.Y.) added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Army was led by Josh Miller with 22 points and five assists.
