BALTIMORE, Md. - Sophomore guard R.J. Evans (Salem, Conn.) and
junior forward Andrew Keister (Galloway, N.J.), members of the Holy
Cross men's basketball team, have been named preseason All-Patriot
League, it was announced at Patriot League media day. As a team,
Holy Cross was picked to finish in first place in the 2009-2010
Patriot League preseason poll of head coaches and sports
information directors, receiving 13 first place votes. Lehigh
finished second in the poll and received three first place votes.
The preseason rankings were rounded out by Bucknell (third), Army
(fourth), Colgate (fifth), American (sixth), Navy (seventh) and
Last season, Evans was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the conference's All-Rookie team and All-Tournament team. He led the team with an average of 13.4 points per game, while averaging 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals per contest. Evans finished the season ranked third in the league in steals, eighth in scoring and 11th in rebounding. He led the team in scoring 12 times last year and scored in double-figures 24 times, including 21 double-digit scoring games in the final 26 contests of the season.
Keister averaged 8.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 0.7 blocked shots per game last year, and hit 58.8 percent (104 of 177) of his field goal attempts. He led the Patriot League in field goal percentage, in addition to standing fourth in rebounds. Keister also led the team in rebounding 14 times, and in scoring on six occasions. A first team All-Patriot League selection in 2008-2009, Keister has now totaled 293 points, 236 rebounds, 26 blocked shots and 26 steals over the course of his career as a Crusader.
Holy Cross is scheduled to open the 2009-2010 slate with an exhibition game against Assumption on Monday, Nov. 2. The regular season opener is set for Friday, Nov. 13, against Harvard at the Hart Center.
