WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head men's basketball coach Ralph Willard announced today that Dee Goens (Alpharetta, Ga.) has signed a national letter of intent to attend Holy Cross and play for the Crusaders. Goens will be one of four players joining the Holy Cross program in the fall of 2009.
A 6-foot-0 guard, Goens currently attends the Marist School in Atlanta, Ga. During the 2008-2009 season, he led Marist to an overall record of 24-5 and a trip to the Georgia Class AAAA state quarterfinals. Goens finished his senior year ranked second on his team and third in his league with an average of 14.5 points per game, in addition to averaging 5.0 assists per contest. He scored at least 20 points in a game six times as a senior, and also shot 49.5 percent (159 of 231) from the field. In addition, Goens played AAU ball for the Georgia Stars.
"Dee Goens is a true point guard, who we expect to become a real team leader," said Willard. "He has an undeniable work ethic both on the floor and in the classroom, and will be an outstanding addition to our program."
Holy Cross finished the 2008-2009 campaign with an overall record of 18-14, while placing second in the Patriot League with an 11-3 mark in conference games. The Crusaders also appeared in the Patriot League championship game for the seventh time in the last nine years.
