WORCESTER, Mass. - Head baseball coach Greg DiCenzo announced today that the fifth annual Holy Cross Baseball Leadoff Dinner will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 in the Hogan Center Ballroom on the campus of Holy Cross.
The evening will include a silent auction of sports memorabilia, a social hour at 5:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame member Paul Brissette (Class of 1954), a former Crusader baseball player and starting second baseman of the 1952 national championship team, will be the alumni honoree for the evening. Members of the 2009 Crusader baseball team will also be on hand with their families, along with many Crusader alumni and friends.
Providence native and current Boston Red Sox Senior Advisor Jeremy Kapstein is the keynote speaker for the evening. Kapstein graduated from Harvard College in 1965 and from Boston College Law School in 1968. In the mid 1970's he was baseball's first super agent with clients such as Fred Lynn and Carlton Fisk. Kapstein would rise to the role of CEO of the San Diego Padres and later returned as a senior baseball consultant on the team and member of the Padres Board of Directors.
Kapstein also led an outreach program for the homeless in the San Diego area for over a decade and was awarded the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless Humanitarian Award in 1999. He joined the Red Sox organization with the new ownership group in 2002 as a senior advisor on baseball projects and special assistant to the President and CEO. Kapstein was also co-chairman of the 2004 Triple-A All-Star Game & Events which were held at Pawtucket's McCoy Stadium.
