WORCESTER, Mass. - Head baseball coach Greg DiCenzo announced today that the fourth annual Holy Cross Baseball Leadoff Dinner will be held on Saturday January 19, 2008, in the Hogan Center Ballroom on the campus of Holy Cross.
The evening will include a silent auction of sports memorabilia, a social hour at 5:00 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 6:00 p.m. Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame member Peter Colombo '79, a former Crusader baseball and football player, will be the alumni honoree for the evening. Members of the 2008 Crusader baseball team will be on hand with their families along with many Crusader alumni and friends.
Framingham native and current professional baseball player Lou Merloni will be the keynote speaker. Merloni graduated from Framingham South High School in 1989 and attended Providence College. He was named the Big East Co-Player of the Year after a season in which he hit .420 with 10 home runs. Merloni was drafted in the 10th round by the Boston Red Sox in 1993 and made his major league debut in 1998. He played for the Red Sox for six seasons and was a member of the Oakland Athletics organization last year.
The Crowne Plaza hotel in Worcester is offering anyone attending the dinner a special room rate of $89/night for either Friday, Saturday or both nights.
