ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Two members of the Holy Cross baseball team have been selected to the 2008 All-Patriot League Tournament team. Senior outfielder Gil Gomez (Lake Worth, Fla.) and sophomore pitcher Bobby Holmes (Dedham, Mass.) were both honored for their outstanding performances during the conference tournament.
Gomez went six-for-13 during the Patriot League Tournament, with a run scored and two runs batted in. His top performance came in Holy Cross' 6-0 victory over Navy in the opening game, during which he had three hits and knocked in two runs. Overall this season, Gomez hit .323 with a team-best five home runs, 12 doubles and 30 runs batted in.
Holmes earned Holy Cross' only victory during the Patriot League Tournament, tossing six shutout innings in the 6-0 win over Navy. He allowed just three hits and one walk, while striking out three batters. Overall this year, Holmes went 5-4 with a team-best 3.84 earned run average and 41 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched.
Holy Cross finished the 2008 campaign with an overall record of 21-28, and tied for second in Patriot League regular season play with an 11-9 mark in conference games.
