WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior third baseman Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.), a member of the Holy Cross baseball team, has received the 2009 Hop Riopel Award. The award was presented at the 54th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Satruday, May 2.
The Riopel Award is presented each year to the most valuable player of the Crusader baseball team.
Perry leads the team with a .439 batting average on the year, to go along with 15 doubles, seven home runs and 36 runs batted in. He has set a new school single-season record with 75 total hits this year, breaking the old mark which was held by his father, Ronnie Perry, with 66 hits in 1978. During his three seasons at Holy Cross, Perry now has a career batting average of .348 with 35 doubles, nine homers and 63 runs batted in.
