CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Holy Cross freshman shortstop Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, through the week of Apr. 17-24, as announced by conference officials on Tuesday afternoon. This is Gorman's first career Patriot League Rookie of the Week award and the third for a Holy Cross player this year. Fellow classmate Tyler Stampone (Meadowbrook, Pa./Germantown Academy) has won the award twice this season.
Gorman hit .352 with four runs scored and six RBI for the Crusaders last week. He racked up a career-high five RBI after launching a ninth-inning grand slam to cap a three-run come-from-behind victory on Wednesday at Dartmouth. It was Gorman's third collegiate home run.
Gorman's best day in the Bucknell series was a 1-for-3 showing at the plate, where he hit a double and scored a run in Holy Cross' only win of the four game set.
Gorman is fifth on the team in batting, with a .298 average. He has 17 hits and 14 RBI in 20 games this season.
Holy Cross travels to Sanford, Maine, for a 5:00 PM game against the Maine Black Bears on Wednesday, April 26. Holy Cross is currently 15-22-1 (4-12 Patriot League).
