CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Holy Cross freshman third baseman Tyler Stampone (Meadowbrook, Pa.) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, through games of April 10, as announced by conference officials on Monday afternoon. This is Stampone's second such honor this season. He was named conference rookie of the week on March 13.
Stampone had a standout series against Lehigh, going 7-for-18 (.389) across four games helping lead the Crusaders take the series, three games to one. Stampone batted in six runs, scored two and had one double and one triple in the four-game set. The triple was the first of his career.
On Monday, the freshman third baseman went 5-for-10 on the day, including his 3-for-6 performance - with three RBI, a double and a triple - in the second game. Stampone also scored a run and recorded four assists defensively.
The six-foot-three Stampone is fifth on the team in batting average, hitting .333 this season with 20 hits and 13 RBI.
Holy Cross is back in action this afternoon when it hosts Northeastern at 4:00 PM. The team will then play Hartford at home on Wednesday, April 12, in preparation for its four-game home stand against conference power, Army, on Saturday and Sunday, April 15-16.
