WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross sophomore pitcher Matt Shapiro (Raynham, Mass.) has been named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for his performance during March 24-30. This is the first time in his career that Shapiro received the weekly league honors.
Shapiro started the Crusaders' 4-0 sweep of Lehigh this weekend, making his first start on Saturday in the first game of the doubleheader. Holy Cross edged out the Mountain Hawks in the afternoon contest, 1-0. Shapiro pitched a career-high seven innings and struck out a career-high five batters and recorded his first career complete game and shutout, holding Lehigh to just two hits.
The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, April 1, when they play host Massachusetts for a game scheduled at 3:00 p.m.
