Center Valley, Pa. - Holy Cross freshman third baseman Tyler Stampone (Meadowbrook, Pa.) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, through games of March 12, as announced by conference officials on Monday afternoon. This is Stampone's first career honor.
The six-foot-three Stampone had an impressive debut in Florida last week, as he went a combined 6-for-10 from the plate with four runs batted in and five runs scored in the three games that he appeared in. Holy Cross finished the week with a 5-3 overall mark.
On Tuesday morning, Stampone doubled in his first collegiate game and finished the day 1-for-4 with a run scored, as Holy Cross took a 7-6 decision over Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.
In Holy Cross' 11-6 win over Bowling Green on Thursday evening, Stampone was 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored, helping the Crusaders sweep the double-header. Stampone singled in his first at bat and then sent a three-run shot over the fence in the third, helping the Crusaders to an early 7-0 lead.
Stampone concluded the week with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with one run and one RBI in Holy Cross' 4-0 win over Yale on Friday.
Holy Cross is back on the road on Wednesday, March 15, when the team travels to Albany for a 3:00 p.m. game against the Great Danes. The Crusaders' home opener is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, at the newly renovated Fitton Baseball Field. HC will take on cross-town rival Assumption at 4:00 p.m. It will be Holy Cross' first game on its home field since the 2004 season.
