Baseball Downed By Army In Patriot League Semifinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Sophomore outfielder Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 at the plate but the Holy Cross baseball team fell to Army, 11-0, in the third game of the Patriot League Tournament Semifinals at Doubleday Field on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders finish the 2009 season with a 22-27 overall record and 11-7 in Patriot League play while the Black Knights improve to 31-18 on the season and 13-7 in the league.
Leading 3-0 after three innings, Army rallied in six runs during the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 9-0 lead. The Black Knights scored one in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the eighth inning, defeating Holy Cross, 11-0, and advancing to the Patriot League Championship. The Black Knights will host Lafayette on May 16-17 for the championship series.
Junior Bobby Holmes (Dedham, Mass.) received the loss for the Crusaders pitching three-1/3 innings while giving up six runs on four hits while striking out one batter. Army's Kirk Porter earned the win, giving up five hits while striking out one batter in eight innings pitched.
