Kingston, R.I. - Matt Sullivan and Mike Rainville combined to go 7-for-8 with three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Rhode Island baseball team to an 11-3 non-conference victory over Holy Cross at Bill Beck Field on Tuesday afternoon. Rhode Island has now won 11 straight games and improves to 25-15 (15-3 Atlantic-10), while the Crusaders fall to 13-23 overall.
The Rams took an 11-0 lead into the sixth inning until senior designated hitter Peter Pasciucco blasted a two-run jack to right center, cutting the lead to nine. Four batters later, second baseman Erik Kistler doubled home Andy Sweeney for a three-run sixth.
URI's Adam Perkins earned his eighth win of the season, which ties a single season school record. Perkins fanned 10 batters and allowed three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work.
Holy Cross starter Matt O'Brien was pulled after just 0.2 innings after giving up eight runs on eight hits for the loss. Mike Thater entered the game in relief and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, while striking out six batters.
Holy Cross finishes the 2005 campaign with a 13-23 overall record.
