WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Fitton Field, with the Leopards winning both games by scores of 2-1. The Crusaders fall to 15-25-1 overall and 4-14 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette improves to 20-22 and 10-8 in the league.
In game one, the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when sophomore first baseman Kyle Lister (Lincoln, R.I.) hit a sacrifice fly to drive in junior outfielder Norm Roth (Orange, Conn.). The Leopards tied the score on an RBI single by Dave Drechsel in the fifth, then scored the eventual winning run in the sixth when Ian Law came home on an error. Matt Revelle earned the victory for Lafayette, allowing just one run on six hits in seven innings. Junior righthanded pitcher Scott Hampe (Dedham, Mass.) took the loss for Holy Cross, despite allowing just two runs on six hits in seven innings.
In game two, Holy Cross jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when senior second baseman Tucker Frawley (New Haven, Conn.) singled to drive in junior outfielder Jamie Aldrich (Stratford, Conn.). The score remained 1-0 until the top of the ninth inning, when Lafayette scored a pair of unearned runs to take the lead. After Drechsel walked, Jeff Butler reached on a three-base error which brought the tying run home. Butler then scored the winning run on a bloop single by Tom Hayes. Matt Kamine picked up the win for the Leopards, allowing just one run on three hits in nine innings. Junior lefthanded pitcher Matt Blake (Concord, N.H.) received a no decision for the Crusaders, despite throwing seven shutout innings.
Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, April 30, when it once again faces Lafayette in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
