Holy Cross Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Sophomore Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) went 2-for-4 in the second game including a double and two RBIs but it not enough as the Holy Cross baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Navy, losing by scores of 6-5 in nine innings and 9-3, this afternoon in Patriot League play. The Crusaders fall to 19-24 overall (10-8 Patriot League), while the Midshipmen improve to 27-20 on the season (10-8 Patriot League).
In the first game, Navy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Mike Guadagninimi doubled down the left field line, driving in Renaldo Hollins from first who reached on a leadoff single. Michael Speciale drove in the second run, doubling down the left field line, scoring Guadagnimi. Trailing 3-0 going into the top of the fourth, the Crusaders put up their first run of the game as junior Tim Hughes (Andover, Mass.) singled to right field, driving in senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) from third base. Holy Cross rallied for two more runs in the top of the fifth, making the score 3-3, as Akashian singled to left field, scoring Perry. Navy answered back with a run in the bottom of fifth, grabbing a 4-3 lead. After grabbing a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh, the Crusaders gave up a run, setting up Navy's 6-5 win in the bottom of the ninth.
In game two, Holy Cross scored two runs in the top of the third as Perry singled to left field, driving in sophomore John Sills (Milton, Mass.). A single through the left side by senior Gil Gomez (Lake Worth, Fla.) scored Perry. Navy answered back in the bottom of the innings, grabbing a 6-2 lead. Both teams were held scoreless for the next four innings but Holy Cross broke the silence at the plate as Perry doubled to left field, scoring freshman Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.). The Mids didn't finish the game quietly as Navy scored three more runs in the bottom of the eight, making the final score 9-3.
The Crusaders and the Mids return to action tomorrow, Sunday April 27, wrapping up their four-game series with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
